About 3,000 white-collar workers at Ford Motor Co. will lose their jobs as the company cuts costs to help make the long transition from internal combustion vehicles to those powered by batteries.
Ford said Monday it is expecting to be missing the necessary parts for as many as 45,000 vehicles.
CEO Jim Farley said Ford should have done better last year, and it left $2 billion in profits on the table that were within its control.
