LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman was killed in a crash Friday afternoon on Bardstown Road.

Aaron Ellis, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police, said officers responded on a reported crash on Bardstown Road at Bardstown Falls Round just after 1 p.m.

Police said a vehicle driven by a man was headed north on Bardstown Road "at what is believed to be a high rate of speed" and crashed into an SUV that was turning out of Bardstown Falls Road.

The crash caused a huge debris field and cars were spread across both north and south lanes of Bardstown Road.

The victim from the passenger vehicle was able to get out without assistance and taken to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The man, who drove the SUV, was helped out by firefighters and taken to UofL Hospital with serious injuries.

But the woman inside the SUV died on the scene.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating.
