LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky is investing $5.5 million to replace and repair aging bridges across the state, including one in Louisville that has been targeted for replacement.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced the funding Thursday, saying the money will support 10 bridge projects designed to improve safety and restore access on roads affected by closures or weight restrictions.
Louisville will receive more than $971,000 to replace the bridge on Goldsmith Lane.
In Vine Grove, the city was awarded more than $964,000 to replace the 82-foot bridge on Otter Creek Road. The bridge is currently closed, requiring drivers to take a nearly 3-mile detour.
Grayson County will receive more than $386,000 to replace the Pleasant View Road bridge.
Other counties that received the funding include:Â Calloway, Daviess, Grant, Johnson, Letcher, Perry and Trigg.
According to the release, four of ten bridges are closed, and others are posted with weight restrictions.
State officials said the projects are expected to improve traffic flow, strengthen local infrastructure and reconnect communities impacted by deteriorating bridges.
