LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities identified the man who died Wednesday night inside Louisville Metro Corrections.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the inmate as 60-year-old Rodney Robinson. Robinson had been in custody for about 24 hours, according to corrections officials.

Metro Corrections Maj. Jason Logsdon said corrections officers found Robinson unresponsive in one of the units around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Logsdon said officers began life-saving measures until EMS arrived. EMS attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead about 15 minutes after he was found.

An internal investigation by the Metro Corrections Professional Standards Unit is being conducted, as per protocol. The Louisville Metro Police Public Integrity Unit is also investigating.

In a statement, Metro Corrections Chief Jerry Collins said mental health services were available to the inmates who might have been impacted by the death.

"Our condolences are with the family, as we at LMDC are saddened by this loss of life," Collins said.

It's not yet clear how Robinson died.
