LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The atrium at the West Baden Springs Hotel atrium is fully repaired and back open nine months after it was damaged in a hail storm.
French Lick Resort released this video on social media showing the protective coverings being removed from the remaining glass panels. The West Baden Springs Hotel was forced to shut down its iconic atrium after it was damaged by hail last summer. All 12 of the carved glass panels in the atrium were damaged.
The hotel was at about 50% capacity at the time of the storm. No guests rooms were damaged during the storm, the hotel has remained open to guests during renovations.
The glass panels have an intricate design, so it took some time for the replacements to be custom made and installed.
The southern Indiana hotel dates back to 1902 and is a National Historic Landmark. It includes golf courses, an opera house and mineral spas. The hotel has more than 240 guestrooms and 40 balcony rooms that look out at the atrium.
