LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- With slowing demand for home improvement this year, you would think it would be easier than ever to find a contractor.
The trick is finding a good one.
One woman loved her new home, until a contractor's job made it uninhabitable.
The first time she used her upstairs shower, water fell into the lower bathroom.
A home inspector told her the work needed to be redone, just as it was finished.
That was just the start too, the contractor put in her electrical outlets upside down and her paint was uneven and chipped.
She paid around $13,000 for the job, only to backtrack and have it all redone.
Another contractor told her that overworked contractors are just now catching up with all the backlogs of the past two years. He said they haven't backed off since the pandemic hit.
The suggestions to finding a good contractor:
- Get referrals from friends and neighbors
- Check Angie's List and Home Advisor for lists of recommended contractors near you
- Check reviews at the BBB
- Never pay full price up front
