What is a Hot Brown?
A Hot Brown is a hot, open-faced sandwich made with Texas toast, thick-sliced turkey, cheesy Mornay sauce, crispy bacon and tomatoes, all baked until bubbling hot. The iconic dish was first served at the Brown Hotel in the 1920s for guests who had grown tired of the same fare, according to the news release. That's when it's said that Chef Fred K. Schmidt got an idea for an open-faced sandwich, and the Hot Brown was born.
