LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) Ā - Leadership and jobs top the agenda for Kentucky's Third District Congressman John Yarmuth. Congress is on break this week, as the House considers the election of a new Speaker of the House.Ā

Yarmuth says he would like to see someone who is more a more moderate Republican be elected speaker. "Somebody who's used to working cross the partisan aisle, and someone who I think has respect on both sides," Yarmuth says Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan has that respect. Ā He knows Ryan well, since serving on the House Ways & Means Committee with him. Yarmuth also says Pennsylvania's Charlie Dent, Oklahoma's Tom Cole and Oklahoma's Frank Lucas are men that Democrats would embrace in a leadership role. Ā But he doesn't believe any Republican but Ryan could get the votes needed to become Speaking of the House.Ā

Yarmuth says the clock is ticking on electing a new speaker. Ā He says it needs to happen by the end of October, "We have these deadlines coming up. The debt ceiling does come into play the first week of November, and the Federal Highway Trust Fund goes bankrupt in several weeks."Ā

While Yarmuth is home on break, his office is sponsoring its 7th Annual Jobs and Resources Fair on Tuesday, October 13th, at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Downtown Louisville. Ā He says they have more than 90 employers who are looking to fill 6,000 positions at companies including UPS, Ford, Walgreen's, Amazon, Norton Healthcare and Humana.Ā

This free event-open to all residents of the 3rd Congressional District-is designed to connect the unemployed, underemployed, and those seeking a career change with employers looking for new talent.Ā

The Small Business Administration will offer workshops for entrepreneurs, and KentuckianaWorks and the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training will provide a computer lab so attendees can complete online applications for employers on the spot.Ā

For those who need a ride, the TARC Job Hunter bus will be available for free. Visit www.ridetarc.org for pickup locations.Ā

The event is hosted in conjunction with KentuckianaWorks, the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, the Kentucky Manufacturing Career Center, the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs, the VA Medical Center at Zorn Avenue, and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.Ā
