LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More than 40 pounds of dangerous drugs won't make it to the streets after a drug raid in Jeffersontown earlier this week.
The raid was the culmination of a coordinated effort involving the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Jeffersontown Police and Louisville Metro Police, according to a written statement Friday from Jeffersontown Police.
During the investigation, undercover officers arranged to buy methamphetamine and fentanyl pills from four men before investigators took them into custody.
More than 30 pounds of methamphetamine and 11 pounds of fentanyl pills were seized in the raid earlier this week. The location of the drug raid was not immediately available.
"The quantity of pills seized in this operation has the potential to kill the population of Louisville several times over," Erek Davodowich, Acting Special Agent in Charge of DEA’s Louisville Field Division, said in a news release Friday. "I am incredibly proud of the collaborative effort by the DEA, J-Town, and Louisville Metro to prevent these dangerous drugs from entering our community."
Jeffersontown Police Chief Rick Sanders said the arrests prove the importance of "federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies working together on multi-jurisdictional operations."
Four men, believed to be from St. Louis, were arrested: 22-year-old Irvin Valencia, 32-year-old Omar A. Melendez-Solis, 21-year-old Diego Valenzuela and 21-year-old Luis Angel Lopez-Cota.
Valencia has a court appearance scheduled in July, while the other three are due in court later this month.
All four face federal charges.
