LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Five people were injured after a shooting early Sunday morning in Bloomington, Indiana.

According to FOX59, the Bloomington Police Department said officers responded at 12:25 a.m. to a large crowd gathered in the 400 block of Kirkwood Avenue.

There were thousands of people in town for Indiana University's annual Little 500 weekend.

Police heard gunshots as the crowd dispersed from the scene. Officers found multiple people injured as a result of the shooting.

Officials originally believed nine people were injured in the shooting but, in an update Sunday afternoon, said it is now five people injured by gunfire.

The victims of the shooting:

  • 20-year-old woman (Plainfield), one bullet wound to the upper torso and also struck by bullet fragments in the side of the torso
  • 18-year-old woman (South Bend), embedded bullet fragments in the ankle and shin
  • 22-year-old woman (South Bend), embedded bullet fragments in the back of the thigh
  • 17-year-old girl (Indianapolis), embedded bullet fragments in the foot and ankle
  • 21-year-old woman (Indianapolis), embedded bullet fragments in the shins and thighs

Police have not identified a suspect at this time. It is unknown if any of the victims are IU students.

According to police, a fight broke out between two females near the front of a restaurant. During the fight, multiple people pulled out handguns, which police believe led to two people firing shots.
