Armed robbery prompts LMPD to remind public about 'MetroSwap Zones'

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Metro Police Department is using a recent robbery to remind the public of the "MetroSwap Zones" where they can safely exchange engage in transactions of merchandise arranged through online apps.

According to a Facebook post by LMPD, police are investigating after a man was robbed at gunpoint during a meeting to purchase merchandise he saw on the letgo app.

Police say the man had originally agreed to meet the seller at a location on Six Mile Lane, but the seller changed the meeting location at the last minute to a "more remote area."

Police call this move a "red flag" that should have appeared suspicious to the buyer. Instead, police say the buyer should have arranged to meet at one of the four "MetroSwap Zones" created in June.

"If you buy or sell something from an app like LetGo, Craigslist or OfferUp, you now have a safe place to go to exchange the merchandise," police write in a statement.

Those four locations are: 3419 Bohne Avenue, 7219 Dixie Highway, 7201 Outer Loop and 200 Juneau Drive. All four locations are under surveillance 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
