LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Another Indiana lawmaker is being threatened over political redistricting in the state.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Carey Huls told WDRB that troopers responded to a written bomb threat toward Indiana State Representative Ed Clere (R-New Albany) about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

ISP searched Clere's New Albany home and did not find any kind of explosive or threat. Clere was provided security as a precaution.

Clere told WDRB that he believes the threat was tied to the redistricting debate underway in Indianapolis. The threat indicated that a pipe bomb was planted outside his house and that it would kill everyone nearby.

Indiana Governor Mike Braun said earlier this month that several Republican lawmakers had received threats over the push to redraw Indiana's congressional map. Rep. Clere went against his party and voted no last week.

The Indiana Senate could take a final vote Thursday on the bill to redraw the congressional map.

State Senator Spencer Deery (R-West Lafayette) is among those facing similar harassment. His son was getting ready for school when someone tried to provoke police into swarming his home by reporting a fake emergency.

State Senator Linda Rogers (R-Granger) has also reported threats at her home and the golf course that her family has run for generations, and State Senator Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) faced a pipe bomb scare that was emailed to local law enforcement.

The three are among roughly a dozen Republicans in the Indiana Senate who have seen their lives turned upside down while President Donald Trump pushes to redraw the state's congressional map to expand the party's power in the 2026 midterm elections.

Redistricting is normally done once a decade after a new national census. Trump wants to accelerate the process in hopes of protecting the Republicans' thin majority in the U.S. House next year. His allies in Texas, Missouri, Ohio and North Carolina have already gone along with his plans for new political lines.
