LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police are continuing to search for suspects involved in a shooting outside the DMV's Regional Office in Valley Station that killed three people Friday as they waited in line.
The victims have been identified as 29-year-old Raysa Valdes, 33-year-old Antwanette Chillers and her 18-year-old son, Leslye Harbin Jr.
On Monday morning, the DMV office at 6202 Willismore Drive — just off Dixie Highway near Interstate 265 — reopened for business despite the tragedy. A line of customers wrapped around the building early in the morning, many of whom had waited for hours before being told the office could no longer accept walk-ins for the day due to staffing shortages.
"We've been here since about 8:30 this morning," Erin Salverson said outside the office. "We've been waiting for over two hours."
A staff member informed those in line that the office had reached capacity, with many workers absent due to concerns about the shooting Friday.
"Some people haven't come in today because of the shooting that happened last Friday," Aiden Muncy, a customer Monday, said an employee in the office told him.
While waiting in her car, another customer, Lexi, said she heard the gunshots and initially didn't think much of it. But after recognizing the sound, she went into shock.
"I heard about three or four shots," she said Monday. "After the first two, I realized what it was and I froze (and) went into an anxiety attack, almost.
"It's crazy to think I was sitting in my car just five minutes before, and then, less than five minutes later, three people are on the ground."
Joseph Bolin, who also had an appointment at the DMV that day, chose to stay in his car despite the presence of security guards at the entrance.
"It's insane," Bolin said. "You can't go anywhere without something tragic happening. I'm safer sitting here."
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear posted on social media Friday afternoon about the shooting, calling it a "senseless act of violence."
"I want to thank the brave law enforcement officers who responded quickly to the scene and to our team members who worked quickly to protect their fellow Kentuckians," Beshear said. "Let’s pray for the family members of those lost during this difficult time."
