LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 50-year-old man was arrested after allegedly lighting things on fire inside an apartment and throwing vases at Louisville Metro Police officers.

According to court documents, police responded to the 7100 block of Southside Drive, near National Turnpike, on a report that Rafael Batista Milanes was riding a bicycle around an apartment complex threatening residents, deflating car tires and putting flowers on cars.

Police said the suspect threatened to kill his mother and shoved her. He had been arrested a day earlier and was instructed to not have any contact with the location, per his pre-arraignment release.

When police found Milanes, he was throwing his clothes and other household items from a balcony. He had barricaded himself inside the apartment.

Police said Milanes then threw several large vases at officers. He also broke a window and threw shards of glass at police. He then started setting items on fire inside the apartment.

People in the surrounding apartments had to vacate the area.

According to court documents, police were able to break the sliding glass doors and used fire extinguishers to put out the flames. But Milanes continued to set items on fire.

He was arrested inside the apartment and caused more than $1,000 worth of damage, according to police.

Milanes was charged with violation of conditions of release, menacing, criminal mischief and harassment.

LMPD said no one was hurt in the incident.
