LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man was arrested early Saturday morning in Crawford County after allegedly driving intoxicated and crashing into a tree, killing his passenger.

According to Indiana State Police, troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash at 12:34 a.m. on East Wyandotte Avenue, just south of Leavenworth.

Police said 34-year-old Steven Spurling of Marengo was driving northbound on East Wyandotte Avenue when he allegedly lost control, left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

The passenger, James Spurling, died at the scene. Police said Steven Spurling was not injured.

According to police, Steven Spurling showed signs of impairment. He was taken to Harrison County Hospital for medical clearance and a chemical test.

Police said he was then arrested and taken to the Crawford County Jail. Steven Spurling faces preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and reckless driving.
