LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man has been charged with murder following a shooting in Louisville's Okolona neighborhood Tuesday night.

Nathan Short, 31, is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections and is charged with murder.

Louisville Metro Police responded to a reported shooting around 9 p.m. in the 3500 block of Versailles Lane near Preston Highway, according to LMPD spokesperson Sgt. Matt Sanders.

Once on scene, police found a man who was shot in the chest. Sanders said he was "conscious and alert" when EMS transported him to UofL Hospital, where he later died during surgery.

According to the arrest citation, Short told the officers while on scene that he was involved in the incident.

The citation said there was a verbal altercation inside the residence before the shooting occurred between Short, the victim, and a known female.

The female began to walk upstairs during the argument and the victim followed behind her. Short admitted to shooting the victim multiple times, according to the citation.

Short is set to be in court on Thursday at 9 a.m.
