LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man pleaded guilty July 22 to kidnapping and killing a 7-year-old girl from Bowling Green in 1996.
Robert Froberg, 62, was indicted in February after he admitted to strangling and killing 7-year-old Morgan Violi and leaving her naked body in the woods in White House, Tennessee.
At the time, investigators traveled to a Montgomery, Alabama, prison, where Froberg was serving time on unrelated charges, to interview him about Violi.
During the interview, Froberg described how he escaped from custody in Pennsylvania in July 1996, went to Dayton, Ohio, where his parents lived, and stole a van. He told investigators he got off Interstate 65 in Bowling Green to buy marijuana, stopping at an apartment complex where he kidnapped Violi, who lived there with her family.
Investigators said DNA evidence found in the van at the time of the crime was tested and helped solve the case 30 years later.
Froberg is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 2 in Bowling Green. If the court accepts the terms of the plea agreement, he will receive a life sentence.
