NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- A southern Indiana man appeared in court Monday on charges alleging he shot a man in the back during an argument in a downtown New Albany bar.
New Albany Prosecutor Chris Lane said Monday that Terry Castile, 64, shot a man he's known for years in the Hitching Post on West Market Street, a place they frequented.

New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey said officers were called to the bar around 3:20 p.m. Sept. 9. Once on scene, police found a 60-year-old man who had been shot. Lane said Castile and the victim got in an argument, but the victim was then asked to leave.
He eventually returned, Lane said, at which point the fight escalated to Castile allegedly pulling out a gun and shooting him.
Lane wouldn't comment on the victim's condition, saying only that it was a "pass-through" shot to the lower back.
"We hold people accountable to the law, and we take violence especially seriously," Lane said Monday. "The use of firearms in an inappropriate way (is) unacceptable."
Bailey said the shooting victim was taken to University of Louisville Hospital "as a precaution" for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Castile is charged with:
- Battery by means of a deadly weapon
- Criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon
Lane said he agreed to a no-contact order with the victim in court Monday and was released on his own recognizance.
