LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --Ā A woman was arrested Tuesday morning after police say she crashed into construction equipment being used to clear debris from a crash site on Interstate 65 and then ran from the scene with her young son.

The incident happened around 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-65 near Crittenden Drive, according to court documents. Louisville Metro Police officers had blocked off two lanes with marked cruisers and emergency lights as they prepared to tow a semitruck and remove debris from an earlier crash.

Officers in marked LMPD cruisers with their red and blue emergency lights had blocked two northbound lanes, as they cleared the scene. That's when police said 32-year-old Ashley Celestine "deliberately went around the officers" in her 2000 Nissan Sentra "in a reckless manner and crashed into one of the workers who was in a skid steer (Bobcat)."Ā

Another worker was close to the equipment when Celestine crashed into it, according to the citation.Ā

As officers approached the vehicle, Celestine and her minor son got out and started running on the interstate, according to court documents. Police said she ignored commands to stop, and "officers had to run on an interstate with heavy traffic in order to detain the suspect."Ā

Celestine's son told officers they were going to see their dad in Indiana, according to the arrest citation.

During her arraignment hearing on April 30, a not guilty plea was entered on Celestine's behalf. She is facing three counts of wanton endangerment, endangering the welfare of a minor, leaving the scene of an accident without rendering aid, fleeing or evading police, criminal mischief and reckless driving.

The judge set her bond at $25,000 full cash. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 8.Ā
