LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jefferson County Public Schools is preparing bus routes for the upcoming school year and releasing a new tracking system.Â
District leaders said Wednesday a new bus tracking system called "Bus Teller" will be ready by July 22. JCPS officials told us it will be a lot like the previous bus finder tool, but will give families one safe bus stop for their students, not a list of bus stops like before.
Parents must also report any address changes by July 22 to make sure their child has a bus stop on the first day of school. After that date, a "freeze period" will be in effect when no additional students will be assigned buses or bus stops until the week of Aug. 12.
Families can report their address changes by filling out the Proof of Address Form or calling their child's school.
New transportation stipends
JCPS will also offer stipends of $5-$10 per day to families with students in magnet and traditional schools who provide their own transportation this fall. It's the first time the district has provided money for families to drive their students to school.Â
The stipends are for families who have been informed their students will not have JCPS transportation to their magnet, traditional, or non-resides Academies of Louisville schools but are staying at their school. Those families who provide alternate transportation will be eligible to receive a stipend.
The stipends will be $5 per day for most parents/guardians and $10 per day for parents/guardians whose students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Sign-up instructions will be sent to qualified parents/guardians in early August.
More information on the stipend program can be found on the JCPS 2024-25 School Year web page.
Classes start Aug. 8.Â
