LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new study reports Indiana University is one of the country's worst public universities for free speech.

According to the study published by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, IU Bloomington was named the third-worst college in the U.S.

IU's low ranking largely stems from incidents last spring related to pro-Palestinian protests that erupted across college campuses nationwide.

The First Amendment Advocacy Group surveyed more than 68,000 undergrad students nationwide, asking about their trust in school officials to protect free speech.

Columbia University and Barnard College were the only two schools that ranked lower on the list.
