LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A school in southern Indiana will have a School Resource Officer (SRO) next year.

At its meeting Monday, the Clarksville Town Council approved splitting the cost of an SRO with Providence High School. The town and school will evenly split the cost of a full-time police officer each school year.

According to a news release, it's estimated to cost $103,000 per year, which includes the officer's salary, benefits, equipment and necessary training.

Clarksville Police Chief Mark Palmer said he was approached by school officials earlier this year about working on an agreement. A new officer is expected to start sometime during the 2024-25 school year.

Providence High School plans to use funds from federal grant dollars.
