LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The University of Kentucky senate voted no confidence in President Eli Capilouto on Monday.

The vote is more fallout from the decision by University of Kentucky's board of trustees last month to dissolve the current Senate.

Capilouto recommended taking the Senate's policy making power away and moving it into an advisory board.

The Senate had authority over things like new courses and academic programs at Kentucky.

In a statement on Monday, Capilouto said the rules weren't clear and impeded more than they empowered. The trustees responded to the Senate's action Monday, putting their full support behind the president.

"Let me be clear, the board of trustees unequivocally supports President Capilouto who is the right person at an important moment of change to lead Kentucky's university," Dr. E. Britt Brockman, chair of University of Kentucky's board of trustees. "Leadership requires making tough decision and doing the right thing even in the face of criticism."

The University of Kentucky Student Government Association supports this change. The restructuring calls for a new president's council to be created, to advise the president, which would be made up of students, faculty and staff.
