LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- EF-1 tornadoes passed through southern Indiana and northern Kentucky following overnight storms in the area, according to a preliminary report by the National Weather Service.

NWS confirmed a tornado near Underwood, Indiana in northern Clark County and another one near Port Royal, Kentucky which is in Henry County.

Mike Martin spent the majority of his day cleaning up the damage on his property, located about 10 minutes from Salem, Indiana.

"We'll get it back to where it should be," Mike said.

Mike's wife, Marlena, took cover in the bathroom.

"All the sudden I heard whistling. It was like the whole house shook," Marlena said. "I could hear things banging and crashing and then when I got up, I couldn't even get out either one of my doors."

Mike had just left to go to work and said, "It was raining pretty good but I didn't hear any wind. I didn't hear anything out of the norm."

The winds reached a maximum of 90 mph. NWS also determined a broad swatch of 80+ mph straight line winds.

"It made them to look like toothpicks. They used to be both big huge trees right there," Marlena said.

On Saturday morning, the right lane on Interstate 65 northbound near Henryville was closed as crews worked to clear off debris from the storm and an overturned truck.

"We have really good neighbors," Mike and Marlena said. "Everybody pitched in."

Tree damage and power lines down were reported in New Washington.

NWS conducted damage surveys around southern Indiana on Saturday. There were additional damage reports in Trimble County along with Salem and northern Clark County.

The survey by the NWS is just preliminary at this time.
