LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An antique store in the Germantown neighborhood is under new ownership, at a time when the area is feeling a void from the closure of a very popular antique mall.
Lynn Gould and her grand-daughter bought Yester Nook antique store earlier this year. As collectors, they didn't want to see another local antique store close.
The building on Goss Avenue was a funeral home for several years, and for the last three, its been an antique store. Gould said the woman who owned it wanted to sell, and she saw it as a good opportunity.
Gould and her husband Eric are already small business owners. They own Smoketown USA BBQ.
The family celebrated the grand re-opening of Yester Nook Antiques over the weekend, only a few months after another antique store closed in the neighborhood.
A few blocks away, on Goss Avenue, the Goss Avenue Antique Mall is no longer. For years, the antique mall was a staple in the Germantown community.
"Loosing a business like the antique mall that brought people in from all over the place was a huge loss for the community," said customer Jessica Devine.
The Goss Avenue Antique Mall occupied the historic building for decades. The building is now being converted into loft style apartments.
Merchandise at Yester Nook is different than Goss Avenue Antiques. Gould said they focus on vintage stuff, while Goss Avenue Antiques sold a lot of high end furniture.
"We do more vintage type items," she said. "What people call kitschy."
