LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Governors Mike Pence and Steve Beshear attended an official dedication ceremony for the new Milton-Madison Bridge
Because of rain, the celebration was moved into the Brown Gymnasium in Madison, Indiana Tuesday afternoon.
Traffic began using the new bridge on U.S. 421 April, but some work continued after the opening.
The new bridge was built on temporary piers beside the old bridge and then slid into place. It took 16 hours to slide the new bridge onto the old piers.
The contractor says it's the longest bridge in North America to have used the sliding method.
