LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The funeral for the Jefferson County Sheriff's reserve deputy killed in an accidental shooting is Saturday.

Visitation at the Arch L. Heady funeral home on Bardstown Road continues until 6 p.m. Friday for Marion "Scott" Fawbush. The 60-year-old died after an incident in his car last week, after he had finished working a detail. Police said a bullet hit an artery in his leg when his gun fired accidentally.

Fawbush served 31 years in the Army, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major. He joined the sheriff's office in 2016 and in 2022 was named reserve deputy of the year. He appeared in recruitment commercials for the sheriff's office.

"It's a big loss. He was a good guy and a good deputy," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

The Fraternal Order of Police will hold a memorial ceremony following Fawbush's visitation. His funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at Southeast Christian Church.
