LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Lane and ramp closures begin Sunday for the Kennedy Bridge.
The Court Avenue and Sixth Street on-ramps to Interstate 65 South in Jeffersonville will be closed.
The right two lanes of the Kennedy Bridge and the I-65 South-to-Interstate 64 West ramp will also close.
The closure starts Sunday at 8 p.m. and continues through Aug. 17 at 6 a.m.
From Aug. 7 at 6 a.m. to Monday, Aug. 10 at 6 a.m. the right three lanes of the bridge will be closed.
The $6.9 million project is replacing aging expansion joints, which allow the bridge to expand and contract with changing temperatures while helping prevent damage to the structure.
The expansion joints have been a problem since the bridge opened a decade ago. They have caused a loud knocking noise on the bridge.
The repair work is in the final phase, officials said.
