LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new advertising campaign is trying to change the public's opinion about pit bulls.

Louisville Metro Animal Services, the Kentucky Humane Society, along with other groups created the "Pit Bull Dogs are Family" campaign. It features Louisville families from all walks of life with their dogs.

More than 20 percent of shelter dogs are pit bull terriers in this area.

"A lot of people feel nervous about bringing a pit bull terrier into their home," said Kelsey Westbrook, of the group Saving Sunny. "That is a myth we are trying to dispel."

Pit bull adoptions through Louisville Metro Animal Services will only cost $9 through February.
