LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An airshow team that debuted at Thunder Over Louisville this year soared about Bardstown on Sunday.
Smoke On Aviation, an airshow team of pilots from Louisville, taught pilots from across the country about what it takes to fly in formation.
"There aren't many avenues for people interested in formation flying to find resources on how to do it safely," said Dave Schmitz, Smoke On Aviation flight lead. "Not everyone here wants to do air shows, but they may want to fly with their friends in their local areas."
Smoke On Aviation performs at local air shows, but on Sunday, it shared its knowledge other pilots.
"Here we actually have people as far away as Minneapolis and Florida come here for three or four days to get some guidance on how to practice formation flying," Schmitz said.
The group performed at Thunder Over Louisville Airshow this year for the first time.
"Thunder is unbelievable, you talk about one of the largest stages to put on our routine," Schmitz said. "It was years in the making of practicing and getting a team together, and getting credentials, then demonstrating that to the authorities and all that stuff to get to a point where you can actually put on a demonstration safely and make it look good for a large group of people."
