LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Churchgoers celebrated the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday evening in Louisville.

People filled St. Paul Baptist Church in Shively, where they got to hear from speakers about the life and mission of King. Proceeds from the celebration were donated to Dare to Care.

The event was organized by the Central District Baptist Association. Organizers said they thought it would be fitting to celebrate King's life by doing something he would do — fighting against poverty and hunger.

"Giving back. He was a man who thought of other people," Robert C. Drake, with the Central District Baptist Association, said. "He was the true version of I am my brother's keeper and we want to try and do that as well. We want to try and help those who are less fortunate."
