LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Firefighters want you to do a safety doublecheck this holiday season.
Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS spokesman Jordan Yuodis said Wednesday that process starts with checking your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
"Especially if you're going to have more guests sleeping in different places in your house where you wouldn't normally be, then we've got air mattresses here, we're having people sleep in this place, that place," Yuodis said. "Just go ahead and do an overall home safety check."
If you have a live Christmas tree, make sure it has plenty of water. They burn extremely quickly if they catch fire.
And never leave food on the stove unattended, especially around young children.
Be extra careful if you are using space heaters and keep them away from anything flammable.
