LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's been nearly five years since Louisville Metro Police officers shot and killed Breonna Taylor during a raid.

Tuesday, Louisville Rep. Morgan McGarvey honored her on the House floor in Washington, D.C.

"Breonna loved her family, her community, and more than anything, she loved life," McGarvey said. "In the face of injustice, we we cannot be silent. We must speak up. We must say her name. Breonna Taylor."

Police killed Taylor on March 13, 2020. More than two months later, after the city released the 911 calls from Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, protests broke out across downtown Louisville.

Former LMPD officer Brett Hankison was convicted of violating her civil rights by shooting blindly into her apartment.

Former detective Joshua Jaynes and Kyle Meany are charged with providing false information on the warrant that led to the raid on Taylor's apartment, and then trying to cover it up.

Former officer Kelly Goodlett already pleaded guilty to conspiracy, but has not yet been sentenced.
