LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Metro snow team is getting ready for old man winter.
The city showed off its snowplows Monday painted by Jefferson County Public Schools students at the Public Works' central district location on Newburg Road.
When it snows in Louisville, JCPS students are on the lookout for cancellations or delays, so they were happy to share their art to the community.
Winter is on its way, and our city's Snow Team is geared up for action. Thanks to @LouPubWorks, @JCPSKY, @loukyfire, @NWSLouisville and @KYTC for your hard work and dedication -- we're prepared to tackle whatever Mother Nature sends our way! pic.twitter.com/0Vv0eyXxWa

Mayor Craig Greenberg said the city is prepared to clear the roads this winter.
"Thirty-eight-thousand tons of salt on hand this year," Greenberg said. "And a majority of that salt is stored in the Louisville Mega Cavern not far from here."
That's about an average amount of salt on hand to begin the winter, the city said in a news release Monday. City crews responded to seven "significant wintry weather events" in 2022-23, the city said, using about 16,000 tons of salt in total to treat the 2,734 two-lane miles of roadway.
Louisville's snow team is on-call 24-7 for whenever severe snow strikes.
