LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was hospitalized in critical condition after a crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 264 in Louisville.

Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Aaron Ellis said a motorcycle going east on the Watterson Expressway around 4:15 a.m. rear-ended a semitruck near the Breckenridge Lane exit. The motorcyclist then lost control and hit a concrete barrier of the interstate.

EMS responded to the scene and transported the man driving the motorcycle to UofL Hospital with injuries Ellis described as "critical and life-threatening." The driver of the semitruck wasn't injured.

The crash created an hours-long backup on the Watterson Expressway for morning commuters.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
