President Trump says he is reviewing a new Iranian proposal to end the war
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump says he is reviewing a new Iranian proposal to end the war but expressed skepticism it would be acceptable. He mentioned this on Saturday before boarding Air Force One. Iran reportedly shared a 14-point proposal via Pakistan. Trump rejected a previous proposal this week, but conversations continue, and a three-week ceasefire is holding. Meanwhile, the health of imprisoned Iranian rights lawyer Narges Mohammadi is at high risk, according to her family. The U.S. has warned shipping companies about possible sanctions for paying Iran to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has also hanged two men convicted of spying for Israel.
Austrian police detain suspect in case of rat poison found in baby food jars on supermarket shelves
VIENNA (AP) — Police in eastern Austria say a 39-year-old suspect has been arrested after rat poison turned up in some HiPP baby food jars on supermarket shelves in central Europe. The company recalled some of its baby food in Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia after the case came to light last month. It said in a statement Saturday it was “greatly relieved” by the arrest. Authorities said previously they believe the tampering occurred in 6.7-ounce jars of baby food made with carrots and potatoes for 5-month-olds that were sold from SPAR supermarkets in Austria.
How a weaker dollar is quietly making life more expensive
NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. dollar has dropped about 10% against a basket of other major currencies since early 2025. That shift is starting to show up in everyday costs: A weaker dollar means Americans get less when traveling abroad and may pay more for imported goods like food, fuel and electronics. Economists say the effect on prices is usually modest, but it can add up, particularly when stacked on other factors, including inflation, tariffs and a spike in fuel costs due to the Iran war. President Donald Trump has openly supported a weaker dollar, arguing it helps American industry, and some executives agree, saying it's boosted overseas business.
Ukraine hits key Russian oil-loading port and 3 'shadow fleet' tankers
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine has launched a wave of strikes against Russia’s oil export infrastructure, hitting a key loading port on the Baltic Sea and three tankers that Ukraine alleges were illegally used to transport Russian crude. A nighttime drone strike sparked a blaze at Russia’s largest oil exporting port on the Baltic Sea, according to Russian regional Gov. Alexander Drozdenko. The port of Primorsk lies over 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from Ukraine. Elsewhere, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces had hit two tankers in the Black Sea that had been used to transport Russian oil in violation of Western sanctions.
Paramilitary forces drone strike kills 5 near Sudan capital, rights group says
CAIRO (AP) — Sudan's paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has killed at least five people in a drone attack, according to a local rights group. The attack hit a civilian vehicle in Omdurman, near Khartoum, on Saturday morning. Emergency Lawyers says the attack reflects ongoing targeting of civilians on public roads. Khartoum has seen some sporadic strikes despite being recaptured by the Sudanese Armed Forces last year. The RSF, at war with the Sudanese Army for over three years, has not claimed the attack. Emergency Lawyers condemned the attack as a violation of international humanitarian law.
Cubans struggle to survive on pocket-size government ration books as products dwindle
HAVANA (AP) — Cuba's pocket-size government ration book has been circulating for more than six decades. It once offered a bounty of products that have dwindled as the island's economic crises deepen. A growing number of Cubans depend on state grocery stores in the socialist country of nearly 10 million people. But the shelves remain largely empty in the state stores that have been diminished by a lack of government resources. Cuba imports up to 80% of its food and prices have soared for basic goods that increasingly are sold in U.S. dollars. Ration books are shrinking quickly as Cubans struggle to subsist on meager salaries and pensions.
A Serbian bird-watching group uses crowdfunding to buy and preserve a woodland habitat
PLANDISTE, Serbia (AP) — Nightingale’s Forest is a small woodland in northeastern Serbia that is home to a variety of bird and animal species who thrive on its moist habitat. The Balkan country’s Bird Protection and Study Society bought the land last year through crowdfunding to preserve the forest and set an example in environmental protection. The success of the crowdfunding initiative is seen as a sign of growing interest in nature protection among people in Serbia. The country faces environmental problems from air and river pollution and waste management to profit-driven construction threatening green areas, particularly in big cities. Authorities have pledged to boost environmental care as part of Serbia's European Union membership bid.

The No.7 seed’s reward is an Eastern Conference semifinals matchup with the No. 3 seed New York Knicks. The 76ers will need everything Embiid gave and more to compete with a Knicks team that plays much more physical game than Boston.
