PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jalen Hurts scored the only touchdown for the Philadelphia Eagles in a 16-9 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday night. The Eagles are the only team in the NFC East with more than three wins and the second one in the conference to eight wins. Their 8-2 record puts them in contention to take the top seed and earn home-field advantage as the Super Bowl champions go for a repeat. The Lions failed to convert on five fourth-down attempts and were 3 of 13 on third down. Jake Elliott kicked three field goals for the Eagles.
Browns QB Shedeur Sanders has a rough NFL debut after relieving the injured Dillon Gabriel
CLEVELAND (AP) — Shedeur Sanders finally got the opportunity to show what he could do as an NFL quarterback. In one half of action, the Cleveland Browns rookie showed he still faces a steep learning curve. The son of Deion Sanders entered with 12:43 remaining in the third quarter against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday after Cleveland announced that Dillon Gabriel was being evaluated for a concussion. Gabriel was ruled out later in the quarter. Sanders completed his first two passes, but not much went right after that. He went 4 for 16 for 47 yards with an interception and was sacked twice, finishing with a 13.5 passer rating as the Ravens rallied for a 23-16 victory.
Aaron Rodgers to be evaluated after leaving Steelers' win over Bengals with left wrist injury
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh quarterback Aaron Rodgers is dealing with an injury to his left wrist that forced the four-time MVP to miss the second half of the Steelers' 34-12 win over Cincinnati. The 41-year-old Rodgers appeared to injure the wrist on his non-throwing hand during a long scoring drive in the second half. Coach Mike Tomlin says Rodgers will undergo further testing. It's unknown whether Rodgers will be available when AFC North-leading Pittsburgh visits Chicago next week. Mason Rudolph filled in capably in Rodgers' absence, throwing for 127 yards and a touchdown as the Steelers improved to 6-4.
First baseman Josh Naylor finalizing 5-year contract with Seattle Mariners, AP source says
SEATTLE (AP) — First baseman Josh Naylor and the Seattle Mariners are finalizing a five-year contract, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Sunday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the contract. ESPN was the first to report the deal. Naylor became a free agent for the first time shortly after Game 7 of the American League Championship Series. In 54 games with the Mariners, Naylor hit .299 with nine home runs, 33 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. In 12 postseason games, Naylor hit .340 with three home runs, five RBIs and two stolen bases.
New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is critically wounded in a Manhattan shooting
New York's mayor's office says Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was critically injured in a shooting in midtown Manhattan. The New York Police Department says a 29-year-old man shot early Sunday was taken to a hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition. There have been no arrests. Mayor Eric Adams' office says that the man shot was Boyd. In a social media post, Adams says he's praying for Boyd and his loved ones. A Jets spokesperson says the team is “aware of the situation.” Boyd hasn’t played this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list in August.
Broncos beat Chiefs 22-19 on Lutz's last-second field goal, extending win streak to 8 games
DENVER (AP) — The Denver Broncos have extended their winning streak to eight games with a 22-19 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Wil Lutz kicked a 35-yard field goal as time expired for Denver. It was his fifth field goal of the game. The Broncos improved to 9-2 and all but buried the Chiefs in the AFC West, which Kansas City has won ever year since 2016. Chiefs coach Andy Reid fell to 27-5 following a bye week, counting the playoffs and his time with Philadelphia. Kansas City is now 5-5. Bo Nix set up the game-winning kick with a 32-yard pass to Troy Franklin that got Denver to the Kansas City 15 with under a minute remaining.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Josh Allen has become the first NFL player to have two games with three touchdowns passing and three rushing. He did it Sunday to lead the Buffalo Bills to a 44-32 win over Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Allen's last TD was a rugged 9-yard run with 2:35 left that put the game away. The Bills benched struggling receiver Keon Coleman in a bid to spark their passing game, and each of Allen’s three touchdown passes went for 25 yards or more. He finished 19 of 30 for 317 yards, and the Bills overcame his two first-half interceptions. The game featured nine lead changes.
Roughriders force late fumble at goal line, beat Alouettes 25-17 for 5th Grey Cup title
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Tevaughn Campbell forced Montreal backup quarterback Shea Patterson’s fumble at the goal line and Marcus Sayles recovered it in the end zone with 2:53 left to help the Saskatchewan Roughriders beat the Alouettes 25-17 on Sunday night for their fifth Grey Cup title. Saskatchewan also won Canadian Football League championships in 1966, 1989, 2007 and 2013. Montreal won the last of its eight titles in 2023. Trevor Harris completed 23 of 27 passes for 302 yards for Saskatchewan. Samuel Emilus had 10 catches for 108 yards, A.J. Ouellette ran for 83 yards and a TD and backup quarterback Tommy Stevens had two 1-yard scoring runs.
Jannik Sinner beats Carlos Alcaraz to retain ATP Finals title before his home fans
TURIN, Italy (AP) — The final installment of the “Sincaraz” rivalry for 2025 went to Jannik Sinner. The second-ranked Sinner beat the top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (4), 7-5 for the ATP Finals trophy in the sixth meeting this year between the two players who are dominating men’s tennis. Sinner defended the title before his home fans for only his second victory over Alcaraz this year after also beating the Spaniard in the Wimbledon final. Alcaraz had already secured the year-ending No. 1 ranking and was contesting his first final at the event for the year’s top eight players.
