Milwaukee’s Pat Murphy and Cleveland's Stephen Vogt win Manager of the Year for 2nd straight season
Today is Wednesday, Nov. 12, the 316th day of 2025. There are 49 days left in the year.
Charlie Coyle scored the winning goal in a shootout and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Seattle Kraken 2-1. Kirill Marchenko also converted in the shootout as the Blue Jackets snapped their four-game losing streak in the finale of a five-game trip. Adam Fantilli tied it for Columbus on a power-play goal late in the second period, assisted by Marchenko. Jet Greaves made his second consecutive start, following Monday’s loss to Edmonton. He had 22 saves and earned his first shootout win, stopping three of four attempts. Ryan Winterton scored in the first period for the Kraken. Matt Murray stopped 33 shots in place of injured goalie Joey Daccord, allowing only a 5-on-3 goal.
Louisville coach Pat Kelsey did not get through his first victory against Kentucky completely unscathed. The second-year coach was a little late to the press conference after his 12th-ranked Cardinals defeated the No. 9 Wildcats 96-88 on Tuesday night. When he finally appeared in the media room, his right middle finger was in a splint and taped together with his ring finger. Kelsey sheepishly explained to reporters that as he tried to avoid getting mobbed by his assistants his finger got caught on a curtain and was bent at 90 degrees.
Lauri Markkanen scored 35 points, rookie Ace Bailey added 20 points and the Utah Jazz scored the most points in an NBA game this season with a 152-128 win over the reeling Indiana Pacers. Bailey, the No. 5 pick in this summer’s draft, started the season slowly as he recovered from illness but had his full repertoire of dunks, mid-range jumpers and 3-pointers on display in his second start. Svi Mykhailiuk had 20 points for the Jazz. Pascal Siakam had 27 points and Aaron Nesmith scored 17 for Indiana, which fell to 1-10.
Dru DeShields threw touchdown passes to five different receivers, which included a 25-yarder to Ardell Banks on the first play of overtime, and Kent State beat Akron 42-35. DeShields finished 17-of-25 passing for 317 yards for Kent State (4-6, 3-3 Mid-American Conference). The redshirt freshman threw TD passes of 89 yards to Da’Realyst Clark, 43 yards to Cade Wolford, 7 yards to Terik Mulder and 27 yards to DaShawn Martin, the last of which gave the Golden Flashes a 35-17 lead less than a minute into the fourth quarter. Akron's Ben Finley was 32-of-59 passing for 424 yards with three touchdowns and an interception and Williams finished with 14 receptions for 206 yards. Jordan Gant had 96 yards rushing and a TD on 22 carries.
Quarterback Broc Lowry and Jalen Buckley each ran for a touchdown to help Western Michigan beat Ohio 17-13 and take sole possession of first place in the Mid-American Conference. Western Michigan (6-4, 5-1) has a half-game lead over Miami (Ohio) and Buffalo in the conference standings, both of which have a half-game lead over Ohio (6-4, 4-2). Tailique Williams caught a pass from Broc Lowry behind the line of scrimmage and broke numerous tackles before he was brought down for a 71-yard game and, on the next play, Jalen Buckley ran for a 3-yard TD that gave Western Michigan a 17-13 lead with 13:43 left in the game. Parker Navarro and Sieh Bangura each had a rushing touchdown for Ohio.
Boopie Miller scores 28 points, leading SMU to a 102-91 victory over Murray State on Tuesday night. SMU, now 3-0, led by as many as 18 points in the second half. Corey Washington added 17 points and 11 rebounds. Despite a late push by Murray State, they couldn't close the gap. B.J. Edwards contributed 20 points for SMU, who shot 50% overall. Jaron Pierre Jr. chipped in with 19 points. Murray State's Jackson led with 26 points. This was Murray State's first game in Texas since 2015 and the first loss for their new coach, Ryan Miller.
