WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. Senate resolution has added Missouri to the list of teams with a claim to the 1960 national championship in college football. Missouri Republican Sen. Eric Schmitt introduced a resolution during a meeting Thursday recognizing the Tigers for a claim to the national title. The measure was passed with no objections. Resolutions don’t have the force of law and by the chamber’s definition reflect the Senate’s “sentiments,” according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Missouri went 10-1 on the field with a loss to rival Kansas. But the Big Eight Conference later required the Jayhawks to forfeit for using an ineligible player.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas offensive lineman Cole Hutson has returned to the team in training camp after gaining a fifth year of eligibility. The school announced Friday he was participating in practice. Hutson recently sued the NCAA in Texas for an extra year of college eligibility after the NCAA announced a new plan to allow athletes to have five years once they enter college. A federal judge recently ruled in favor of players like Hutson for another year. Hutson played in 48 games with 23 starts at three different positions in his career.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU has completed a series of two meetings with top donors to outline what university President Wade Rousse has billed as a “first of its kind” revenue-generating proposal for athletics. The meetings hosted by Gov. Jeff Landry at the governor’s mansion outlined the potential creation of an LSU-controlled limited liability corporation that could generate sustained revenues through targeted investments. That's according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the plan has not been made public and is still being refined and reviewed by legal and tax analysts.

UNDATED (AP) — Ohio State and Oregon hold the top two spots in the USA Today preseason coaches football poll. Ohio State received 38 of the 72 first-place votes, while Oregon got six. Georgia is third with seven first-place votes. Texas and Notre Dame round out the top five. Defending national champion Indiana is sixth with 14 first-place votes. The Southeastern Conference has five of the top 10 teams. The Associated Press preseason Top 25 poll will be released on August 17.

UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA has women's flag football on the fast track to becoming a championship sport. There could be a national title game as early as spring 2028, before the LA Games, where flag football will make its Olympic debut. More than 120 schools are slated to field a team this academic year. A vote in January by Division I, II, and III officials could cement the sport's inclusion. Schools are already recruiting and game-planning to build championship rosters. The NFL has thrown its weight behind the sport, sponsoring teams and tournaments, and USA Football is developing players to bring home an Olympic medal.
