LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — NBA All-Star and former University of Kentucky standout Karl-Anthony Towns is helping build a basketball facility in the Dominican Republic.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star is partnering with GO Ministries and World Youth Club to lead the construction of a state-of-the-art facility designed to offer training and recreational opportunities for young athletes in Santiago, Dominican Republic.

“I am excited to partner with GO Ministries/WYC to create a facility where kids can play basketball and provide a platform to learn life skills, build character, and pursue their dreams,” said Towns in a news release Friday.

Towns' mother was from the Dominican Republic, and he said his heritage inspired him to give back to the country he considers a second home.

“The Dominican Republic has given me so much, and this is my way of giving back," he said.

The facility will feature a full-sized indoor basketball arena with the latest technology, training rooms and classrooms and community meeting spaces for workshops and other events.
