LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Newly uncovered video shows what happened leading up to a now-viral recording of a Jeffersonville High School teacher putting a student in a headlock.

The initial video recorded last Tuesday shows first-year photography teacher Casey Ritter shove a student and place him in a headlock.

Ritter’s attorney, Larry Wilder, says someone anonymously emailed him new footage that shows what happened before the altercation. It appears to have been recorded by the student involved.

“A picture is worth 1,000 words — well that video is worth 10,000 words,” Wilder said. “And listen to the words of the young man and the venom and the hate that he spews at a school teacher.”

Wilder said Ritter was monitoring the hallway and bathroom that day, saw the student vaping in a stall, and smelled marijuana.

The video starts with the student saying "He's opening the stall... get yo d*** headed a** home. Nah, you just opened a stall on me what the f**** wrong with you."

Ritter responds saying “get out you little."

Then the student says "I don't give a f*** bruh I don't. Get out I don't give a single f****."

“That student grabbed that lanyard that was around his neck and pulled it so hard that it snapped,” Wilder said.

Wilder also said the student slammed Ritter's hand in the stall door.

Moments later, another student began recording the separate video that has since gone viral.

When asked why Ritter used force to stop a student from vaping, Wilder said, “We respond to rising force with additional force, right?”

Wilder said he advised Ritter to resign. Ritter has not been charged, and the prosecutor’s office is still reviewing the case.

“What he did on that day was attempt to be a conscientious employee of Greater Clark County Schools who was making every effort to maintain an orderly school,” Wilder said.

WDRB has reached out to the student’s attorney but has not heard back.
