LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A new Louisville facility is giving families experiencing homelessness a safe place to stay as they work toward permanent housing.
The Unity Home opened Thursday in Smoketown as the first facility on the Community Care Campus, a partnership between Louisville Metro Government and Volunteers of America Mid-States.
The facility includes 29 shelter units and connects families with employment assistance, childcare, healthcare and transportation services.
The Unity Home is part of Louisville's Home for Good initiative, which aims to help at least 250 people experiencing homelessness find permanent housing by 2027.
Mayor Craig Greenberg said the project shows what can happen when the community comes together to address homelessness.
"This is an example of what can happen when the city and state work together to help people in need, to invest in the community that enriches our entire state," Greenberg said.
