LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thursday is National HIV Testing Day, and Norton Infectious Diseases Institute is encouraging people to get screened for HIV.
The CDC recommends all adults be tested at least once in their lifetime, as well as once-a-year testing for people with specific risk factors.
"HIV testing is important so we can identify people with the disease but also get them plugged in for treatment," Jeffrey S. Reeves, M.D., infectious disease specialist, said. "Those who are negative, we can have discussions about their sexual health and provide services to help prevention of HIV."
Norton Prompt Care locations offer rapid HIV testing. Some locations have longer weekend hours.
Appointments are required. You can view locations and make an appointment here.
Most pharmacies also offer at-home tests.
