LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A much needed new home is coming soon to a fire department in Harrison County.
The Palmyra Fire Department is spending more than $2 million on the fire station and it'll open next fall.
It will provide more room for fire trucks and other equipment. The new station will replace the current station which was built in the 50s' and will be sold.
"Let us all remember why fire departments exist anywhere ... for the people of the community and those surrounding," Josh Norman, Palmyra Fire Department chief, said. "They are a symbol of hope in moments of despair, a symbol of unity and a symbol of public service."
The department has 32 volunteer firefighters. They joined community members for a groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
The new station will be on State Road 135, headed north from the center of town.
