LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville has begun removing signage bearing the logo of Papa John's International from its football stadium.
Crews were out Wednesday morning with tall lifts removing the company's logo above the "Cardinal Stadium" lettering. It will take some time to remove all the branding and signs at the facility.
University of Louisville President Neeli Bendapudi decided last month to rename what had been known as Papa John's Cardinal Stadium after Papa John's founder John Schnatter admitted using a racial slur during a conference call in May. It is now Cardinal Stadium.
Schnatter apologized, but the revelation cost him and the company.
Schnatter resigned from the U of L board of trustees and as chairman of Papa John's board. He later said it was a mistake to give up his post as chairman and filed a lawsuit accusing the other board members of treating him in a "heavy-handed" fashion.
