LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Protesters gathered at the University of Louisville Wednesday evening in support of Palestine.

Demonstrators marched on campus denouncing the ongoing war in Gaza and called on the U.S. to end aid to Israel.

There were chants and drums as the group made its way through campus.

There have been ongoing demonstrations and rallies on college campuses across the country, including Indiana University and the University of Kentucky. A protest was also held earlier this month at Jefferson Square Park in downtown Louisville.

The war has now been going on for more than seven months.

The war began when Hamas and other militants stormed into southern Israel on Oct. 7, killing around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking another 250 hostage. Militants still hold about 100 captives and the remains of more than 30 after most of the rest were released during a cease-fire last year.

Israel’s offensive has killed more than 35,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which doesn’t distinguish between civilians and combatants in its figures. Israel said it has killed over 13,000 militants, without providing evidence.

Wednesday's protest came on the heels of President Joe Biden's administration telling lawmakers it plans to move ahead on more than $1 billion in arms sales to Israel, the Associated Press reported, citing three congressional aides.
