LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- It was a big day for some military students at the U of L ROTC commissioning ceremony. Some students received a full scholarship through the program.
Cadet Preston Vance of Bowling Green explained, "It's a little bit of an extra experience -- couple extra requirements, early mornings every week, don't know if I could've done it any other way."
And Second Lt. Carly Ann Townsend, an Army nurse, said, "I've had a countdown on my phone since January and this day is finally zero, and it doesn't feel like real life."
Ten of the 17 U of L cadets who became second lieutenants at the event are Distinguished Military Graduates. That's an honor earned by only one-fifth of the nation's graduating cadets.
