Shively library to close Saturday for renovations

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Things are about to get really loud at a local library.

Construction crews will move in and renovate the Shively Library. It's expected to close Saturday evening and be shut down for three months during the work.

Plans include a new separate library entrance, more public Internet computers and better accessibility. Leaders want to make sure people keep visiting libraries during the renovation.

"We want them to go to the library that's closest to them," said Lisa Sizemore, the Louisville Free Public Library assistant director. "That could be the Iroquois branch, Southwest, Shawnee, or another library. We're also going to be sending their reserves -- the books they want to have held, the ones they borrow from another location -- we're going to have those shipped to the Southwest branch while the library is closed."

New carpet, ceilings and wall finishes will be installed as well as improved heating and air conditioning systems.

The project is expected to be complete by April.
