LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A Tennessee murder suspect died in southern Kentucky on Friday, after police say he shot himself.

Joseph L. Parker was wanted in connection with a Tennessee murder. He was stopped by Kentucky State Police as he was traveling on I-65 north in Simpson County, near Bowling Green, according to officials.

Kentucky State Police say they observed Parker driving a 2007 Toyota Camry near the 10.2 mile marker. Authorities say Parker continued to the 12.6 mile marker when he pulled over on the right-hand shoulder of the road way.

Parker shot himself while sitting in the driver seat of the vehicle after a brief standoff, according to police.

Mr. Parker was pronounced dead at the scene by the Simpson County coroner.

An autopsy will be performed on Parker's body in Louisville.
