LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Friends, family and fellowship were celebrated in the Chickasaw neighborhood on Sunday.

The Greater Galilee Baptist Church on West Broadway hosted its annual Family and Friends Day. It was a chance to show off the church's new pavilion and connect with the city's at-risk youth.

April Ralston's son was killed in June of 2022. She believes event like the one on Sunday provide an outlet away from the temptations of the streets.

She wants events to highlight positivity of the west end.

"We are taking a stand against the gun violence," Ralston said. "What we are trying to do is put the word 'neighbor' back into the hood. We want to bring community together and just show all the great things that west Louisville has to offer."

The event also featured several anti-violence advocacy groups and resources.
